‘Vikings’ season 5: Lagertha and Ubbe getting cosy; The end is near
No need to worry, “Vikings” fans. Season 5 is coming this year. Alex Høgh Andersen, who plays Ivar the Boneless, has already reaffirmed a couple of times that the first batch of episodes of the upcoming season will air in 2017. And although Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and Ecbert (Linus Roache) have both moved on from the show, next season is promises to be jam-packed as the beginning of the end draws near.
Spoiler alert: This article contains plot details about “Vikings” season 5. An official announcement has yet to be made regarding the air date of the season premiere. Episodes from the series’ previous seasons are available for Australian viewers to watch on SBS.
Not long before the fourth season was over, History released a “Vikings” season 5 sneak peek. And although the video is only less than a minute long, it shows a slew of interesting titbits, starting off with the Seer’s cryptic omen.
“I see death. The consequences of Ragnar’s death are not yet played out. You have only seen the beginning of the end. So now, prepare yourself for what is to come.”
Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) is the one the Seer is speaking to, and the palpable astonishment on her face upon hearing the message is undeniable. When she seeks clarification on what is to come, the Seer fires back: “Do you suppose you could change your fate if you knew it?”
It seems that everything is already lined up for everyone in the Viking world, and preparing for “the beginning of the end” doesn’t sound much fun, both for the characters and the fans. “Vikings” TV
series creator Michael Hirst also previously mentioned that the show has at least two seasons left, so it’s going to be a free-for-all battle for Norse supremacy.
Lagertha can also be seen with Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) in the preview video, and they look pretty comfortable sitting and drinking next to each other considering the history between the two. After all, Lagertha killed Ubbe’s mother, Auslaug (Alyssa Sutherland). Ubbe was previously close to killing Lagertha, too, and there’s no doubt that she remembers that.
It remains to be seen whether Lagertha and Ubbe are really hitting it off or just playing the usual game. Ubbe could very well be plotting some sort of destabilisation, but a possible romance between the two is not entirely out of the question. Making more things interesting is the fact that Lagertha once told Ubbe that he looked like Ragnar when he was younger, which may or may not mean something.
